About Tenerife - Climate, Culture, Flora, Fauna, Geography, History and Tourism

We have compiled some useful information about Tenerife, click on the following links to take you straight to each detailed section.

Tenerife is referred to as the “Island of Eternal Spring” the largest of the seven Canary Islands has a unique micro climate acknowledged by NASSA to be one of the best in the world, it is beneficial for people with rheumatic and arthritic conditions.

Since the volcanic activity subsided the Tenerife climate has been one of the most stable on the planet enabling a unique and endemic variety of Tenerife flora and fauna to evolve. Tenerife Culture, although predominantly of Spanish origin, was also derived from the roots of the primitive Guanches, the earliest inhabitants of the island.

Although Tenerife history has a lengthy timeline the most significant recorded events have occurred during the past half millennium. Tenerife geography began when three volcanic islands fused together by merging lava flows, one of the last Canary Islands to be formed and arguably the most spectacular.

Tenerife tourism began on a small scale at the end to the 19th century with wealthy visitors arriving on the island by tall ships or steam ships, at that time the favoured tourist locations were Puerto de la Cruz and the capital of Santa Cruz. Arrival of the jet age, a century or so later, triggered a major surge of tourist visitors to the south coast of the island. By the 1970’s the major resorts of Las Americas, Los Cristianos and Los Gigantes were developing to meet the demand.

Find out why Tenerife Tourism is changing and why Tenerife has become one of the most popular tourist locations.
